Annapurna Base Camp Ski & Snowboard training

NFSS was able to conduct the first Ski training in the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Rasuwa, on 4100m in February 2017. In total there were 9 international Ski instructors from Austria, Canada and Germany. We had 30 Nepali students who were interested to learn Skiing and snowboarding. Due to the high alpine dangers we are always concerned with saftey aspects of mountaineering and therefore organized several avalanche workshops and theoretical and practical training sessions. This time 6 honorary soldiers from the High Altitude Warfare Center in Jomsom were able to join our training for the very first time.

After a 6 days intensive course for beginners and advanced Skiers & Riders we conducted the first Skitour race in the history of Nepal. The race course was around 1000m of distance and 150 m of altitude and Sukdev Thapa (Dolakha), a tourism student from NATHM college was able to win the first prize. Kunga Sherpa (Okaldhunga) secured 2nd position while Mr. Major Kishoor from Nepali Army made 3rd.

In additon we conducted a beginners race for Skiers and Snowboard riders. The results will be uploaded soon.

The training programm was a great success for the Ski & Snowboard community in Nepal which is continuing to grow every year. We recieved a lot of positive feedback and applications for our future training camps. It is remarkable how quickly our NGO expanded during the past year and we are happy to announce our next Intermediate training in Manang in September 2017.

First Nepali Ski Expedition

The Ski and Snowboarding Foundation Nepal aims to teach Nepalese youngsters skiing, snowboarding and skitouring. With the support of a consortium of Austrian, German and Swiss ski instructors that are keen on sharing their skills and knowledge with Nepalese tourism students we will start a dual track ski school project. While on the one hand we train mountain guides and Climbing Sherpas how to conduct skitours securely with tourists, we will teach Nepalese students and youngsters how to ski and snowboard.

In September 2016 we will conduct an advanced ski training for mountain guides in the Dhaulagiri to improve their already existing skills in ski touring. From 18th december until 6th of January NFSS will organize a beginners course in Langtang valley with the support of another NGO dedicated to promote skiing in Nepal Himalayan Trek.
During February 2017 we will organize a major beginner and advanced ski training with locals, students and mountain guides.

The goal is to empower Nepali stakeholders to establish several ski tour resorts so that they can expand the tourism season, create new jobs and opportunities through existing infrastructure.
